EPA 608 Core
The Core section covers the federal rules, refrigerant science, and safe-handling fundamentals required before any type-specific certification. Everyone must pass Core.
Type I - Small Appliances
Type I covers small appliances such as refrigerators, window A/C units, and dehumidifiers that are factory-charged with five pounds or less of refrigerant.
Type II - High-Pressure Appliances
Type II covers high-pressure and very-high-pressure appliances such as residential A/C, heat pumps, and supermarket racks using refrigerants like R-410A and R-22.
Type III - Low-Pressure Appliances
Type III covers low-pressure appliances such as centrifugal chillers using refrigerants like R-123 and R-11 that operate below atmospheric pressure.
Universal Prep
Universal Prep combines all four sections. Completing Core, Type I, Type II, and Type III prepares you for the full Universal exam and unlocks your Universal certificate of completion.
